claire's success story
Posted by Alicia Silverstone on Feb 8, 2010

Hi everyone - Kind Lifer claire posted her success story in the forum, and I just had to share it with you all!  She titled her post 'My allergies are gone!!!!!'... such exciting news!  Here is what claire had to say:

"I became a vegetarian a month ago and a vegan 3 weeks ago (from eating meat most meals).  I was taking a Claritin or Benadryl if it was bad almost every day because I would have intense sneezing fits and itchy eyes.  I didn't know what it was too, because it wasn't seasonal, usually indoors.  I have not needed another allergy pill since then!!!

Also I have exercise-induced asthma.  Since I stopped exercising daily for sports, I had trouble running, even with my inhaler.  I had so much energy that I went running and I didn't feel any burning and I felt like I could breath deeper with no mucus.

I totally coughed up a lot of stuff during detox, but the end result has been completely amazing.  Push through any coughing or head cold symptoms in the begining.  I hope to make it through the winter with none of my chronic sinus and tonsil infections.

In conclusion, dairy is yucky and The Kind Diet is awesome."

I love this!  So happy for your claire, these are such amazing results. If any of you have a great story like this, post it to your profile page or in the forum and flag it as "Cool".  I love reading stories like this, and sharing them with all of you!

Great story Claire -- I too have exercise-induced and also cold-induced asthma and have for about 15 years which has progressively become worse over time. Cold-induced means that living through New England winters is really difficult. I gave up dairy in November and I'm slowly transitioning to a vegetarian diet, but the reduction in dairy has caused a significant improvement in my asthmatic condition. I replaced cow's milk with almond milk and yogurt with coconut milk yogurt -- it was easier than I thought it would be. I am grateful for these posts and Alicia's book which got me started on this life transition and keeps me excited about new ideas for better health. Thanks everyone ;-}
Thank you so much for sharing Claire!! Although I don't suffer from allergies or asthma I too think dairy stinks and The Kind Diet is awesome!! Keep up the excellent super hero work:-)
Thank you for inspiring me !
I just started your book - and already changed some life patterns.

What a wonderful and inspirational story, Claire.

My allergies went away after I became vegan as well.  Turns out I was born lactose intolerant and was weaned on to milk products! I became a vegetarian at 12 and vegan as a teen.  With a vegan diet,  years of unnecessary stomach pain went away, as did my exercise/ cold induced asthma.  I still have asthma when I get a virus, but I hardly get sick any more.

I'm so glad the Kind Diet is out there to help so many people enhance their lives, just as ours have.

this is soooooo great to hear! love hearing these stories because it really shows how great an fabulous vegan is! power to peaceful!
I need some help! I am new to the vegan world and i am honestly a little worried that with my pickyness, i am not getting all the nutrients i need to be healthy. We just found out that i am pregnant, so it is even more important now than ever that i am staying healthy. How do you know you are getting all your nutrients? What do you guys eat? Are there any key foods that really give you a lot of what you need? I am also having sooooo many issues trying to find things with no ingredients from animals, any advice?!! Thanks!!!

Hi Lisa!,
I had 3 kids in four years...all vegan pregnancies (okay there was that month in my first pregnancy that all I wanted to eat was cheese pizza!!! But other than that completely vegan!!!) and all three of my kids are happy/healthy little people!  Not to mention probably suffer from fewer typical kid ailments than most (they aren't vegans, but are subjected to my ways!!!...limited processed foods and the freshest stuff I can get into them!!! :)

Go for what you like so it isn't a shock to your system! (being pregnant is enough of a job!) If you like pasta try throwing in some nutritional yeast rather than grated cheese, or top your salad with beans and nuts (walnuts, dried cranberries, black beans, chick peas...again whatever you like)....If protein is your concern try lentil soup, add beans whenever you can (veggie chili...) try temphe...it's delish!! My first book was 'Simply Vegan'...give it shot, it makes life easy (at least did for me)
Good luck, you and your little one will be psyched you made the transition!!!!

I am so happy to hear this, Claire, congratulations, this proves that we can cure ourselves and lead  better lives!! Thanks Alicia, for opening us to the Kind LIfe and the Kind Diet!!
