I have only been eating vegan for 6 days now but am so excited to finally be good to myself and am really becoming aware of my surroundings and wanting to help with our planet--such a wonderful feeling!!

My son is 7 and saw something on nick jr a few weeks ago about earth day and what other kids were doing and he asked if we could help "clean up the earth". I organized a get-together for our homeschool group and we are going to clean up one of our fave playgrounds and have fun earth day activities, games, and snacks afterwards. My son is even going to read a book about Earth Day to the rest of the kids.He is soooo excited! And I'm excited to see my son getting involved in GOOD things-to help the planet.

Michelle, I'm definitely going to the CF Earth day celebration! I have been trying to find something special for earth day, and I'm glad you mentioned this. I can't wait!
Hey my Kind Lifer friends!
I know our environment is near and dear to all our hearts and we love this week every year!  This year, I've been contracted to help on this tour for Save My Oceans. I am in Boulder, CO right now and there are other events happening about the country- raising awareness about the horrible amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans..... this coming off a week where the Giant ATLANTIC Garbage Patch has been documented. We now have a Giant PACIFIC and ATLANTIC Garbage Patch- FULL of plastic bags, bottles, etc.
Visit the site to gain information and take the pledge to reduce your plastic consumption, whether it is a reusable water bottle, a biodegradable grocery bag, etc. etc etc.  It's easy to even do just a little and has the most enormous impact you could never imagine. All that plastic breaks down, fish eat them- bottles end up in stomachs of sea life....it's really terrible. We can have a huge impact!  Take a look and take the pledge and follow through! :D

Happy Earth Week everybody!

Earth day is my FAVORITE day of the year!

Here a few more simple ways to go green today and every day.  Every little bit helps! Put a brick in your toilet tank, use newspapers instead of paper towels, use hankies instead of kleenex, turn the nozzle of your showerhead down, unplug unused appliances, clothes swap with friends, ride your bike to do errands around town such as your banking or for fetching rice milk, barter services with friends.  These are the things we do at our house to help and there are six of us! NO water bottles, no meat, no air conditioner, and only environmentally safe cleaning products and personal products.

Happy Day-Before-Earth Day everyone!

I’ve been on my vegan journey since this January and am loving it! And it all started with The Kind Diet book! Thank you so much Alicia for creating an approachable way to learning about going vegan!

I love Earth Day and always try to think of some way to celebrate and inspire people to get involved. Here’s what I came up with this year: I’m organizing a lunch “Veggie Pot-Luck” in my office. (I work in a small office, so it’s manageable!) I sent out an invitation to my coworkers to celebrate Earth Day by having a meatless lunch tomorrow. I included this statistic from goveg.com “According to Environmental Defense, if every American skipped one meal of chicken per week and substituted vegetarian foods instead, the carbon dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than a half-million cars off U.S. roads.” I’ve encouraged people to feel free to bring in a meatless dish that they can share with everyone. I’m also bringing some vegan items including: BLT sandwiches (made with Tempeh “bacon”, tomatoes, avocado, and Vegenaise), a pasta salad with veggies and dressing, a fruit salad, and some vegan chocolate cupcakes! I’m also doing a raffle. Everyone that goes meatless for lunch can enter. The prize will include a $10 gift certificate to a health food store across the street from my office that offers numerous veggie sandwiches, soups, etc., and then I’m going to include a couple recipe cards with my favorites! I’m hoping that this may inspire some people to learn more about the effects of the meat industry on the environment.

I wouldn’t have even thought of this idea without The Kind Diet. I’m so thankful to have had this book and website enter my life! Here’s to being green!
