eco clothes

There is a method behind what ends up in my closet.  First, I always try for vintage or used clothing.  Next, I go for organic cotton or natural organic material clothing.  Lastly, I go for regular new clothes.  I end up finding most of my things used, and add a few new things every now and then.

My favorite places to shop for vintage clothes in LA are Wasteland (on Melrose), Crossroads (one on Melrose and one in Santa Monica), Buffalo Exchange (La Brea, Studio City, Westwood), and Jet Rag (La Brea).

For natural material clothing, I love EcoSkin, Battalion, Ecoganik, Edun, Alternative Apparel's eco line, PI Organic....and these aren't natural material, but deserve to be mentioned - DKNY and H&M make groovy faux leather jackets.

For shoes, Melissa brand shoes are so cute.  I have 2 pair of her jelly-style shoes (pictured here).  You can get them at Nordstrom and online.  Stella McCartney (duh....love her stuff, shoes and clothes), Converse, Adidas vegan tennis shoes for walking and hiking.

Socks...everyone needs a pair or 10 of Maggie's Organic socks (available online at www.maggiesorganics.com or at most Whole Foods).  I like them in pink, purple and baby blue! Oh, and white is good too.

Bras...the website www.faeriesdance.com has great all natural ones that I like.

For vintage jewelry, I love AK Vintage.  I wore one of their necklaces to my book launch in New York.

I recently did a photo shoot with NY Post Magazine, with all eco clothing.  The clothes were amazing, and it gives a great sense of what's possible in cruelty free fashion.  You can check out the awesome clothes here.

I am new to this site and perhaps have just missed them being mentioned,  but I am a huge fan of the shoe brand Terrasoles.  They make vegan footwear and also utilize mostly recycled materials.  I started wearing them long before I began my Kind Life journey and will continue to do so for their comfort, durability and reasonable prices (I promise I don't work for them!).
Love these shoes, I've been trying to find great vegan ones forever!
I've heard converse can't confirm that they do not use animal-based glues. :(
Also worth mentioning that Melissa shoes are completely recyclable injected thermoplastic (*cough, rubber, cough..*). They have a ton of styles- most of which can be found at www.epauletshop.com. Plus they have artists/designers who collaborate with them. I LOVE Vivienne Westwood's anglomania line.

As for Stella - I love her. But keep in mind that while she is leather and fur-free, she does use silk, wool, cashmere... And I love her adidas line, but hate that adidas tests on animals. Such a frustrating ethical dilemma.

any of you know where to get vegan ballroom dance shoes?  i have only found two pair online, didn't like either of them, and they were very pricey.  i have found ballet shoes, but need the other kind.
thanks

Also, apparently Capezio makes custom order vegan shoes. You should call them or email them. http://www.capeziodance.com/footwear/

I just came across this interesting article about H & M's fraudulantly labeled organic line: http://pardonmyfrenchclothing.blogspot.com/2010/04/h-fraudulent-organic-line.html
