What a great way to be eco-friendly. I love it :)
Kind Lifer Michele Powell told me about this awesome company called Greenbox.
She’s used them twice for moving – basically, you rent green boxes instead of using cardboard. You can also reuse the eco-friendly packing materials once you’ve moved!
Have any of you Kind Lifers moved recently? How did you make your move as eco-friendly as possible?

The concept of not moving green was a little bizaare to me, but I guess that most people DO go out and buy boxes then throw them away...We go to Super Walmart at midnight and our local grocery store on stock day (just asked the manager) and asked them for cardboard boxes. Banana boxes, laundry soap boxes, anything you can think of- made it all the way in a giant truck, so they're strong enough for moving! And when we're done, we just freecycled them!
This is an absolutely brilliant idea. I've moved houses over 30 times in my short life and I can't believe I never thought of this!!! Great job guys!
i recycled boxes from where i work, then when i unpacked, i used the boxes as garden mulch. i also like to shred grocery bags, basically any brown paper products, to use as garden mulch. slugs like wet paper so save ur egg shells to crush up and put around ur plants ;)
I work at a restaurant that gets plenty of boxes once a week from their weekly order and if someone tells us that they need boxes for moving we simply let them know what day the shipment is coming in and have that person pick up the boxes at the end of the day!!! Its worked for lots of my friends...you dont have to pay for boxes and we dont have to throw them out! Its a win win! I'm sure there are a lot of businesses and restaurants around your neighborhood that would be glad to do this for anyone who needs some packing material!
I obtained cardboard boxes from stores, freecycle, and craigslist. I rented a u-haul truck and discovered that many of their locations have an area to leave your used cardboard boxes. After I had un-packed some boxes, I would leave them and any bubble wrap or newspaper at the local u-haul for others needing moving materials. Anyone may walk in and grab what they need for free.
These look amazing. I hate packing and moving, but I'm kind of excited about using these when it's time! The site is officially bookmarked.
I am moving from NC to ID shortly... I wish this was available for my move :(
