flowers from my garden
Posted by Alicia Silverstone on Sep 22, 2010

I was in the garden before I left for Detroit to shoot Vamps, and while harvesting food, I used some of the food plants for arrangements in vases around my house.

borage

Borage flowers which are edible and great in salads, are also super pretty in a vase.

Sweet Pea

Sweet peas (pictured above) are so yummy and also produce really pretty flowers.

Lemon Verbena

Lemon verbena (pictured above) smells so good and looks pretty in a vase as well. People often make tea with the leaves too.

Dandelion and Nasturtium

Dandelion (pictured above) is so good for you (see my previous post about dandelion here) and the flowers of course look lovely in a vase. Nasturtiums (red flower in the salad above) are another edible flower. They add a beautiful pop of red color to salads! What are you favorite flowers?

smiley-cool.gif DITTO [back atcha], ALICIA.....I AM SOOOO VERY PROUD OF YOU!!! smiley-cool.gif LOVE & LIGHT SENT YOUR WAY!

I DID WANT TO SHARE WITH THE GROUP SOMETHING I [FINALLY] FOUND OUT DURING THE MULTI-QUESTIONING ONE GOES THROUGH BEFORE HAVING A MEDICAL PROCEDURE [1ST COLONOSCOPY IN MY CASE]. IT ANSWERED A QUESTION I'VE HAD (AND PERHAPS MANY OF YOU MAY STILL HAVE) REGARDING THE OL' ASPIRIN -A-DAY DILEMMA: SHOULD YA' TAKE IT?

WHEN ASKED WHAT "MEDS" I USED, I SAID, "ONLY A DAILY VITAMIN B12 PILL & A CALCIUM CALTRATE CHEWABLE TABLET"...WHICH THEY WROTE IN MY FILE....WHILE NODDING.

NOW HERE'S THE BIGGIE. THEY ASKED, "NO DAILY ASPIRIN ?" I SAID, NO. AND THEY SAID, "THAT'S RIGHT--YOU DON'T NEED THEM BECAUSE YOU DON'T EAT RED MEAT!" SWEET, EH!

I QUIT TAKING ASPIRIN WHEN I WENT VEGAN BUT WASN'T CERTAIN WHY. NOW WE KNOW!!!

TY-K

very beautiful flower display..

Ty-K, very interesting. I never knew the reason why people take aspirin either. Now we know.

Thanks Susan, glad you liked the australian native flowers. xx

i was told years ago while working at Aphrodite's Organic Delights in Vancouver that figs were not vegan. Because, they were home to a specific species of bug that larvae ed inside them, kind like how bees and honey
