I recently came across a very cool furniture company, Hudson Furniture Inc., that makes all of their furniture out of salvaged trees or wind/storm damaged trees. I think it's so great to use reclaimed wood rather than cut down trees growing in forests. When I buy furniture, if I don’t buy something used, I only buy new things that are made out of reclaimed wood. I also love the rustic, earthy look so I did some research to see what other companies are out there that also use reclaimed wood and here are a few that I found. But if anyone knows of any cool reclaimed wood companies I'd love to hear about those as well!

There are so many awesome things you can make with reclaimed wood. I just found some great reclaimed wood picture frames on Etsy. I also remember going into a very cool vintage clothing store in the Valley a couple years ago and their clothing racks were made out of reclaimed tree trunks!  It was such a fun way to present the clothes.

In my home I also have a dining room table made out of an old bowling alley lane!

I also have some reclaimed shelves in the living room, and recently bought a wine rack made of reclaimed wood. It’s so pretty! I need to find a home for it though, because I don’t have space for it right now.

What have you made with reclaimed wood?

When this post came up I forgot about a local company that takes recycled glass and makes dishes out of them...they are sold all over the country (there is a store link on their website) and they are some of the most beautiful dishes especially with candlelight..

We took out an old door with 9 glass panels on the top half.  We cut the door down so we were left with the top which had a 6 in. wood surround.  We sanded it down to bare wood and put L brackets on the corners to hold the pieces secure.  We put plexi glass on top , and 4x4 wood legs with industrial wheels.  We used a cherry wood stain.  It is now our coffee table.

This is such great furniture, but I looked at the PDF catalog, no prices were listed. That usually means things are pretty pricey, does anyone know where I can find the prices?

My boyfriend is a carpenter and just finished building acoffee table for our new apartment.

I love it!

you should check out stephanehubert.tumblr.com. he makes all of his pieces from found, recycled, repurposed materials. and they're chic & luxe looking to boot!

I just adore seeing how varied artisans and designers reuse materials to create new home furnishings and decor! Hudson is a fave. So is our own company, RETREAT.

My husband and I design & build vintage-inspired furniture & decor accessories from reclaimed, recycled, and restyled materials. Old dining tables with great pedestals but broken, delaminated tops are remade with contemporary metal tops, old bed headboards are refashioned into benches with old wood church pew seats, among many other original products. This is an outgrowth of our lifestyle... for over 30 years, we've decorated with restyled, reclaimed, recycled materials & furnishings. It's a passion that became a business!

...oh, and can I just say to Ty, the first commenter on this post, this isn't like heading to Home Depot and buying a pre-cut, pre-sanded bunch of 2X4's to build a table out of! Working with reclaimed materials requires MANY additional steps of preparation (from researching and locating and picking up the raw materials to milling them into workable pieces) and finish (from removing existing sap, residue, grime, etc. depending on the materials) to produce a quality piece. The price reflects that attention to detail and artisanship. If what you want is 'cheap' recycled furniture, you have to shop garage sales and do the work yourself.

Anyone have ideas for modern furniture makers that are sustainable and completely eco-friendly? I love all this stuff here, but a lot of what I find is more cottage or victorian in style....We're super modern!

I am looking for a reclaimed wood wine rack with top. Any suggestions where to look? Live in Portland. Thanks!
