This year I'm making my own soap for my friends and relatives. You can buy large chunks of glycerin to melt (you melt it in a double pot, kind of like you would melt chocolate) and pour it into molds after you've colored or scented it. It's a lot of fun, and people really appreciate handmade gifts.

In the past my mom has made red pepper jelly and other jellies and jams from our garden, and we've both made flavored vinegar - putting sweet things like orange and vanilla in vinegar is actually really good, and can be a great topping for sweet things.
