Kind Heart
Kind Lifer Justine recently sent me her success story about overcoming a lifelong weight problem. Check it out!

“I'm 27 years old and I'm from Detroit, Michigan. I have been overweight my entire life. I was almost 10 lbs as a premature baby. In elementary school, I was well over 100 lbs. By high school graduation (2002), I weighed in at 295 lbs. Nothing I tried worked. I joined gyms; I did diet programs. I bought every workout DVD and new fitness gadget the market released but I just kept getting worse. My family has a long history of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, so I knew I had to save my life but didn't know how.

In 2007, I saw you on “The View” talking about going vegan and it piqued my interest. But I wasn't ready to commit. Then I saw you on “Oprah” discussing it in January of 2010, and decided I had to see what it was all about. I googled everything vegan. I headed straight to my local bookstore and picked up The Kind Diet and The China Study. Oh My God, what an eye opener!!! I knew if I was going to go on this adventure, I was going to have to go full throttle. No Flirting for me, I had to go head first Vegan. My Vegan journey started on July 4, 2010 and I saw results right away. Within two weeks I felt lighter; I slept better at night, and had energy during the day. It motivated me to keep going. The more results I saw, the more I engaged. The more I engaged, the more results I experienced!

This really has changed my life. I've lost 83.5 lbs since July 4, and I’m 100 lbs lighter than I was in high school. My migraines are gone. I haven't had a cold in a year. My acne is gone. My nails were brittle and broke constantly - now they are long and strong. I don't need reading glasses anymore. My vision has actually improved. The people around me noticed the difference right away and asked me what my secret is. I love telling them about going vegan.

My Kind Diet has now turned into My Kind Life. I'm more conscious about the products I buy. Shampoo, shoes, soap, cleaning products, clothes, everything. I planted a garden in my backyard and I really take pride in growing my own food and knowing exactly what I’m consuming. I started meditating (something I never would have done before) and appreciate life in ways I used to take for granted. It's amazing what eleven months can do. I feel like I was in prison for 26 years and finally got released. And I thank you for the wake up call.”

I became Vegan after seeing the film Forks over Knives. I was already organic in all departemsnt even meats and dairy, 2 years ago i gave up all artificial things like sweetners, processed foods, etc, but it convinced me to change more. since May 2011 ive dropped 17.5 pounds. its coming off slow but stready. i walk 2-3 miles 5-7 days a week. i feel amazing. dairy is where i saw the biggestest difference in how i felt..i will never go back to the way i was. I got the Kind Diet book 2 days ago and read it in one sitting. it confirmed to me that the change i made was the right choice. I love this book, its light and sometimes funny, but has a ton of important info and facts in it. I am just now getting into the recipes!!!!! I am 47 so its never too late to make a change!

Justine,

That is AWESOME!!!  I had the same experience you did.  I always struggled with my weight and nothing ever seemed to work.  Then I saw the Oprah show with Alicia on it and it changed my life.  I was vegetarian for a while, but I still did not feel as good as I do now being vegan.  I have lost 60 lbs and have never felt better.  I love telling people that ask how I lost the weight.  People always think that I am 25 or younger and I am actually 32 almost 33 and I credit a lot of that to being vegan.

Keep up the awesome work.  I would love to see pictures<3

Wow!  What a story!  Congratulations on a super, life-changing achivement. We're all touched by your courage and fortitude.  You go girl!

I always wish my experience was like this....when I attempted going full vegan I felt tired, lethargic, weak, down, hungry etc.....so I started going back to my old ways. I have attempted it a few times but end up feeling so horrible I incorporate old habits till I feel better. I can't seem to find the balance....very frustrating....but SO happy that others aren't having those issues.

Justine,

YOU ARE AWESOME!!!  Congratulations!  I know how you feel about wanting to tell everyone about being a vegan, especially after reading The Kind Diet and The China Study.  I'm in the process of reading the China Study and it is insane that people actually still eat meat!!!  I've been a vegan since April 8, 2011 because of Alicia (thanks, Alicia).  I did feel somewhat tired for the first month or so, but I was told that it was my body detoxing and getting rid of all the junk.  Now I have just completed month 4 and I feel great and I have NO CRAVINGS for meat or dairy.  It's amazing how your body just swithces off from junk.  Now I'm trying to change my 3 kids (no easy task), but I won't give up.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Also, for anyone who has trouble swearing off meat or dairy, read Eating Animals.  You will never even want to look at meat or dairy or fish again.

Congratulations Justine!  Keep up the great work!  I'm so happy for you and so proud of you!

Thank you everyone. I have had some personal matters to attend to and haven't been on-line. I only saw that this was posted on Sunday. All of your comments really warm my heart.
