nourishing nishime

nishime

I just fell in love again with the nishime (ni-shee-may) recipe from my book- well, I never really fell out of love with it except when I was pregnant. It’s a traditional macrobiotic vegetable dish and though I couldn’t eat one bite of it during my entire pregnancy, just a few weeks ago I started finding it delicious again!  I’m just so happy with how it tastes – it makes me feel so balanced and nourished- sooo good for winter.

If you haven’t tried nishime, it’s on page 273 of The Kind Diet. It’s especially nourishing to the stomach, spleen and pancreas. It’s so, so good for you and very superhero - but also, it’s just yum!

Eat it often!

What’s your favorite superhero comfort food?

Personally I believe that generally dishes like this one are really not anti-cancer but some of them are delicious, today cancer is generally my only main concern about them...

I will absolutely try to find the ingredients to make this yummy looking dish asap.  I live in a food-desert so it's very difficult to find healthy ingredients and products. :(

I'm from Minnesota, and right now it's pretty cold and everyone (myself and two kids included) are suffering from not-so-pretty colds...decided to make the "healing soup" instead of the old go-to chicken noodle (have been vegan 1 1/2 months) and it is delish! I added some different stuff from the fridge in there but I'm feeling better already, and my son loves the broth...

Thanks for the great recipe!

Hello fellow Kind Dieters!  I had to share this story from my 7 year old daughter, Tatiana.  Keep fighting the good fight! smiley-cool.gif

LOVE ANIMALS, DON'T EAT THEM...ALL LIVES ARE PRECIOUS

THE FUN RIDE BY TATIANA LOVE

The vegan diet is a rollercoaster except this one takes you to help the planet.  I have seen smiles on animals’ faces, so the diet is a dream come true.  It’s an experience that you’ll never forget.  If I had one wish, it’ll be that everybody was vegan.  Once you start being vegan, you start appreciating fruits and vegetables.  Being vegan is actually fun for me.  When I grow up I want to be a vet, so I can help even more animals.  When I see an animal happy, that makes me happy.  I have been trying to volunteer at the animal shelter and vet offices, but they won’t accept me because I’m only seven years old.   I am trying to convince my classmates to become vegan because I want fewer animals to be slaughtered.  My favorite foods are vegan ice cream, sandwiches, salad, fruits, nuts, spaghetti and toast.  I’m vegan because it’s good for my health, it’s good for animals and it’s good for the planet.  I want to say thank you to Alicia Silverstone, Peta and Kathy Freston for inspiring me and my family to become vegan. Please keep doing what you are doing so the planet is a better place.

Broccoli!

I can't even find nishime around here, along with many other ingredients in the recipes in the The Kind Diet. I have the book, and try to browse through trying new recipes all the time, but we live where many ingredients are lacking. The next best place to purchase (fresh foods especially) is in a town two hours away. Since my car can't currently go that far without some much needed (but no money for) repair, heading out of town is out of the question. Can you order the fresh produce, etc fromt the websites? Any experience from anyone doing that? Is it a good idea?
