Thank you to Brittany Dohman, Cassie Wakefield, Erin Malland, Robyn Eastling and Zachary Wolk for your suggestions in Portland!
I stayed at the Ace Hotel which is so cool. It's decked out in tons of cool vintage finds, and is just very artistic and groovy. They have a collection of vintage vinyl that you can borrow to play on the turntables in your room! And there are Ace Hotels all over the country if you want to check them out.
I ate at Blossoming Lotus and had a delicious Macro Bowl. Also had the Raw Fudge. Yum! Later I checked out Portobello Vegan Trattoria and had the Beet and Cheese Arugula Salad. All the vegetables are locally grown. The cheese was made by Field Roast Grain Meat Co., who make my favorite sausage. I also had the Gnocchi and loved it! Everything was sooo good. I didn't have any wine, but I loved reading about the beers and wines because they are getting it from local people who take local grapes and who drop off the wine to the restaurant on their bicycles! It's very groovy and in a great location. I loved the street and the vibe of it all!
The people of Portland seem very happy. Everyone was so friendly and happy to be there. Ace let me borrow a pink bike and I took it on the train. I got off at Washington Park and rode down to the Japanese Gardens. The ride was so nice and was my favorite part of the trip. There was this one squirrel with a huge nut in her mouth running around. So cute! Being on the bike was very freeing with the wind and air on me, I was trying to yell out into the wilderness.
I was only in Portland for a very short time so I wasn't able to make it to a bunch of places I wanted to try out. The Farm Cafe sounded good. And I'm totally bummed I didn't have time to make it to the Vegan Mini Mall where Sweetpea is. My friend Erin brought me these peanut butter and chocolate treats from Sweetpea that were insanely good! I also really wanted to go to Bye and Bye Cafe which sounds like a really cool bar/cafe with a cool scene. Next time!

Alicia,
It was really nice to meet you and see someone so convinced of what they do and believe in. You are an inspiration to me to treat myself so much better. I aksed you if you were going to get your book published in Australia. I really hope so. I'll let you know how my sister enjoys the book and recipes. Keep up the good work. *natalie
There are so many people in moving to Portland from here in Cincinnati. I hear it's a great place. Everyone I know who moved there are vegan too. Sounds like a great city.
So nice to meet you and I'm glad you liked the Ace Hotel... my hubby and I stayed in that exact room as the picture you posted. By the way, I'm loving your book! I'm going grocery shopping this weeked to start *flirting* and hopefully progress from there. Thank you for writing such a lovely and informative book!

Yay! I am so glad you were able to make it to the Japanese Gardens too!
this looks so cozy...btw i think you should do a show on the food network....we need a vegan cook! :)
Any restaurant recommendations for us Philadelphians? Are you planning on coming anytime soon for a book signing?
Thanks for updating about Portland! If you come back sometime and want a tour guide (or a therapist! Grin!), let me know! My partner and I would be happy to show you around. Another good restaurant for vegan fare is Wild Abandon. The title just makes you want to go there, doesn't it?!
