SDH organic sheets
Posted by Alicia Silverstone on Apr 8, 2010

I want to introduce you to my friend who I love so much, Alex Keeling Thompson. She is guest blogging about sheets she recommended to me! Alex is a fashion stylist. We met on an Entertainment Weekly cover shoot for Miss Match years ago. We started working together after that because I was going to the Emmys and the Golden Globes that year. I was nominated for a Golden Globe, so I had to look fab. Alex is great with clothes and style.

We became friends... We went hiking together, had dinner dates, and our husbands like each other too, which is nice. We both love to find the coolest eco products on Earth. She is also the most rock and roll mom. Her husband is a musician and was in the band Remy Zero. They have 3 kids together. They do it all so well. She is a great role model mom for me. She loves loves loves her kids, is super rock and roll, has fun, lives her life and takes care of herself.

SDH Organic Sheets
by Alex Keeling Thompson

How many times have you bought organic sheets hoping to find the comfy, yummy feel of hotel soft sheets only to open the package and feel sandpaper on your fingertips... After that happened to me, I decided to search out the softest organic bedding and I found it!!!

Finally, a soft organic sheet has arrived that is luxuriously finished and is universally beautiful. You can have a decadent organic sheet that looks great and feels even better. SDH is the company that sells the finest organic sheeting on the market today. There products are an investment, but when you think about the fact that you spend about 8 hours a day in bed... I'd say they are well worth it!!!! These soft organic sheets will make you sleep better at night and will make your home look fabulous.

The company is based on using natural, "luxury" fabrics and is eco-friendly in developing there products. SDH is GOTS certified which means consumers looking for textiles (linens) that are produced in an environmentally and socially responsible way have found the right company. Not only are these fabrics free of harmful chemicals, the results of their production pose no threat to the environment or the communities in which they were produced. How awesome is that!!!!!

The "Purists" line is 100 percent organic and the classic sateen and flannel sheets are amazingly soft. They have other lines within there company that use natural fabrics but not all the lines are 100 percent organic so do what feels right to you... The "Purists" line has a line called "Marrakesh" (pictured above) that offers high style to any bedroom. This print is so cool because it has that cool chic bohemian feel but the palette is done in neutral tones that make it understated and cool for your bedroom.
Very exciting for all of us who want to be stylish and have the peace of mind that we are sleeping on bedding that is safe for us and good for the environment.

These sheets can be bought online and are available at the following stores:

Birmingham, Al - Three Sheets
New York - ABC Carpet and Home
Dallas area Plano, TX - The Iron Bed
Los Angeles area, Corona del Mar, CA - Bliss Linens

I found awesome organic sheets at www.edenhome.com and they were on sale for like 35% off, which made them way more affordable. The coyuchi sheets were still regular price but had free shipping which we couldn't find anywhere else. We're going to try the ones we got first and see how it works out, I hear that organic cotton isn't as brittle so it lasts longer, which might bring the total price for the more expensive sets down to something that I can justify.

Andy, Thanks for the link, these look awesome. I just ordered organic bamboo bedding from midori linen. I bought a towel set from them at a local flea market stall here in NYC and the guy was so sweet and informative about their products. So I did a bit of research and splurged on a sheet set from their website. I am so excited for them to get here!!! It's all about great sleep for me and bedding has so much to do with that. I spent $130 on the whole sheet set.....eeeek! A splurge for me but worth it. Much love!

Tali,

I've heard that organic bamboo is really soft but I just have a hard time imagining that such a hard plant could be comfortable to sleep on. My wife and I honeymooned in Thailand and spent a few nights on the bamboo floors of huts, NOT comfortable. I'd love to hear how your's turn out, I've heard of midori but never had any of their products.

Pink Solution - for washing those fancy sheets - can be eaten (i think you figure out a way to budget on the other stuff that's just not that important if you really want some of the nice stuff)

Pink Solution is a natural enzyme cleaner, which when mixed with water, emulsifies dirt, grease and grime, and restores finishes to their natural state. This means that it will not only clean, but will actually brighten surfaces that most cleaners dull, such as stainless steel appliances and fiberglass bath and shower stalls. The enzymes will emulsify even the oldest stains, which means that so long as there are not permanent dyes involved, even the oldest of laundry and carpet stains will be removed. Also, it contains no chemicals, and can be inhaled, eaten and used without any gloves, with no ill effects.

Andy, Oh my, these sheets are the softest sheets i have ever slept on! I think it's something to do with how the bamboo is woven into fabric. It has a slight satin feel to it. Also it is naturally anti-microbial, biodegradable, and stays cool in the summer. I tend to get really hot when I sleep on cotton and so far I have slept really well with these. I definitely recommend them. So far I am only familiar with midori but I am liking them a lot. Also, I bought the natural color bamboo sheets which are white which can be kind of a pain to keep clean but my boyfriend and I love the feeling of clean crisp white sheets. Anyway, I read online that to clean bamboo sheets, all you need is half cup of baking soda on a gentle cycle. No fabric softener or anything! Pretty neat!.
