Kind Lifer and mother of three Kim recently shared how she was able to renew her health by adopting a kind diet. Check it out:

“I took my three kids out to the library about three weeks ago. I sat down in this big comfy chair and right in front of me, in this beautiful display, was The Kind Diet. I have been thin my whole life, and have never been interested in dieting. But for some reason your book spoke to me! What could be ‘kind’ about dieting?

I come from a ‘hunting’ family; I love animals, but was taught that they were put on this earth for consumption. So, when I started to read about animal kindness, I thought it was going to be ‘gushy’ for lack of a better word. I was skeptical!! Heard it all before, mumbo jumbo! But I read anyway… and one chapter into it, something changed in me.

Kim Before
Before

I have always embraced my age, but at 41, I was beginning to experience ‘symptoms of aging.’ I was sluggish and tired; my emotions were on a roller coaster; my skin was starting to break out (which was new - I have always had great skin and hair); my belly was looking saggy. My mind would race; I was getting forgetful, and I just felt like my brain couldn't shut down. I would wake up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep. My periods had been horrible for two years. Someone told me it was peri-menopause…at 41? Come on! Just part of getting older? I didn’t think so! I was feeling like I was going crazy - that something was happening to my body, and I had no control over it. My sleeping thing was bothering me to the point that I was considering hormone replacement therapy. I read that women who go into menopause too early have a huge chance of getting breast cancer, ovarian, and cervical cancer and that HRT is the only way to prevent that. Ugh!

Anyway, when you talked about the hormones and antibiotics in the meat... that hit home. It wasn’t my age; it was what I was putting in my body! I read the whole book, and I was sold on a kinder diet. I brought the book to work - I own a girls accessories company, and I have a bunch of moms who work for me. We made the commitment to give a kinder diet a try for four weeks, and at the end of the four weeks, if we wanted to go back to eating meat we would.. but for four weeks, we had to be superhero! Go big or go home! Can I tell you…this has changed my life. In 3 weeks all of my symptoms were gone.

I now have a clarity that I have never had before! I have energy that is natural, not stimulated!”

I love this! I’m so happy for you Kim, and it’s great that you shared The Kind Diet with your employees! If any of you kind lifers have a success story to share, private message me or write a note on your profile and “like” it. I may feature you on the homepage of The Kind Life!

I am 41 and all of your symptoms mirror my own.  The peri-menopause is what is most frightening for me considering I don't have any children yet, but the painful monthlies, insomnia, racing mind patterns and add to my list depression and anxiety, ibs and eczema.  I take close to twelve pills a day to cover all of my symptoms and I am getting tired of it...not only that but prescription medications are expensive.  I am considering moving towards a vegan diet but haven't made the full comitment yet, but your story is very inspiring, thanks for sharing.

LOVE hearing this and all the success stories.  I am a success story too and feel equally as happy!!  Keep it up and congrats!!!

Thanks for sharing your story.  I struggle with all of those symptoms you listed and working to get myself on a vegan diet.  I love your motto " Go big or go home"!  I would like to know how you made your complete change around your family's eating habits?

How exciting to hear another testimony on how going veg is a "cure"! Kim you look great!! Congrats on the switch to a kinder life!

@kbuckmister, I can't speak for Kim, but for me it's all about changing together. My husband and daughter still eat meat because I do not believe in forcing anyone to change their diet for the sake of my own; its their own choice. However, my vegan diet has influenced my husband to eat healthier, incorporating veggies and fruits and wholegrains into his diet, along with organic meats. He's even considered a few meatless dinners (eek!). I've been vegan for four years and he still hasn't converted and probably never will, but life is easier now that we have all adapted together.

As for making actual meals, let's say I'm preparing a chicken stir-fry with rice complete with vegetables for him and my daughter. I would cut up enough veggies for his meal as well as enough for a single serving for my own meal, add tempeh or tofu, and cook in two separate pans and a meal is ready in less than 45 minutes. Or maybe he wants marinated grilled chicken breast with rice and green beans. I'll marinate tofu or tempeh in the same marinade cook separately and I have marinated tempeh with rice and green beans. The key is to always make the sides or additions vegan using vegan butter, veggie stock etc. From those sides, you can usually create your own meal, maybe adding a few extra ingredients here or there.

Hope this helps :)

Kim, congratulations on becoming vegan...you look fabulous in your second photo, not that your first photo isn't attractive, also...wow, that's all I can say...you look great for your age!

BETH MIKENS,

Totally Agree w/your philosophy! I've been VEGAN 2 years & my wife is completely opposed to ever not being 100% carnivorous. However, that being said, I have learned that my best motivation is my example--and not harping on anything. Occasionally she'll say, can you make enough of your [MY] salad for both of us? Natch, I always do.

Now, she even helps me locate VEGAN-Friendly restaurants & accompanies me to them. So, life continues for us all, right! We eat suppers together, however, I prepare my supper while she prepares hers. It works pretty well. Kudos to you! ;-)

Ty-K

Mary and Ty-k , I will try that .. I take a low dose of b-12 vitamins every MORNING.. Maybe Ill switch it up and take it with my supper! I hope it works!

Ty-k , The same sleep pattern with me! I usually go to sleep around 11:30 these days becuase if I go to bed at 10 , i also wake up around 2 am and can almost never get back to sleep. Ex; today I waoke up at 1:30am and didnt fall back asleep until 5ish for about 1 hour! Urgh..

But apart from that everything is great :P
