Girliegirlarmy.com has a great article on alternative diaper methods. Check it out HERE. It will dispel all the myths and worries out there about cloth diapers. It's not as frightening as you we all thought!

The benefit of using cloth diapers instead of disposable ones is similar to using cloth pads (like Lunapads) or a Diva Cup instead of disposable pads and tampons. I love me some Lunapads!! I use them whenever I'm at home or just running out for a few hours. I don't use them when going out on say a hot date...for that I use Seventh Generation disposable pads.
Take a look at girliegirlarmy.com’s article and let me know what you think!
How do you diaper your baby?
I had twin girls 9 years ago & like Maia (above), we used Dydee Diaper service. It was wonderful! My girls never got diaper rashes.
I have 4 children (9 thru 2) and I used cloth on # 2 & 3. I LOVE THEM and wish I used them on all 4. I love the kissaluvs fitted cloth diapers, which I believe are the ones in the photograph. It was the best decision I ever made and I taught my kids that cloth diapers & breastfeeding are normal. I love to see my 2 year old putting cloth diapers on her babydolls, wear them in a sling, and nurse them too!
Also - I use the diva cup and I love it. It's been a few years now and I would never go back to any other method. I feel so good about using it too. I think about what I'M NOT PUTTING IN THE LANDFILLS!!
We are using gDiapers, and have for about a year...Love them! I have a 5 week old and a 19 month old. I am about to start pottying training my oldest, I am curious about any eco-friendly training panties? Any advice?
I have used and loved my cloth diapers from the time my son was born a little over two years ago; and we are still going strong.
I do have to add that when using disposable diapers, all poop needs to go in the toilet. All of the packages state to "place solids into toilet" as a step before they are thrown away. It can contaminate water supplies and create health concerns when this is not done. I think that if this was actually done, disposables would be so much less desired; as it is not easy to get poop out of a disposable like it is with cloth.
@jennifer Stephenson: There are some great cloth training pant options out there. It depends on where in potty learning you are but my two favorites are Imse Vimse Trainers and Snap-Ez pocket Eco Trainer. Imse Vimse trainers are great for daytime and for when a child is almost completely using the potty. There are like thick cotton underpants but with a PUL layer hidden just inside the outer layer (so they seem like undies). Snap-Ez pocket eco trainers allow you place as much absorbancy as needed into the pockets but are stretchy enough to be pulled up and down. Great for nitetime and for beginning potty learning! www.wildflowerdiapers.com is a great site for these!
I have used reusable diapers for all six of my children! I love the fact that I don't add to the landfill disposable diaper problem! I get my diaper wraps and chinese pre-folds from dydee diaper service. They have a web site and it is very affordable! I could not really afford the kind that were all in one, that would have cost me way to much for a couple of day supply! I just put the dirty ones in a diaper pale and dump the poop in the toilet if it is too messy I use a cat litterbox scooper to scrap it off. It can be messy sometimes but to me it outways the real cost! I wash them in hot with either oxyclean or borax-whatever I have available at the time and double rinse. I wash diapers about every three days. I just make sure I have enough diapers to make three days. I also purchesed diaper doublers-they are extra liner to absorb even more. I always put them in the middle of the diaper and just fold them in on each side. The wraps are great because you can use the wrap over and over again when it is just urin, I only need to change the wrap when their is poop and only if it happens to get on the wrap. All my baby's did have extra large butts from the diaper and I would have to buy extra big pants to accomidate the big butts! It really is very simple! I love them! All of my kids would always get rashes if they had to wear a disposable and sometimes that would happen. Know pull-ups was always harder for me to deal with. Any suggestions? I used the training pants-cotten, but dealt with allot of messes. The plastic covers worked o.k. Happy diapering!
My sister just had a baby recently and I wish she would be more open to the fact of using cloth diapers.
I know when I have kids I want ton try my very best to incorporate cloth diapers.
Oh, and how is the difference with the enviro-safe pads? I would like to switch in that area as well if I can....?

I love flip cloth diapers...one size fits all for BOTH covers and inserts. Baby (who is a huge wetter) stays dry with 2 stay dry inserts overnight. You can also buy disposable inserts if you want to use these when on the go. My biggest discovery is that EVERY poop stain comes out by simply drying them under the sun...the sun will get poop stains out of clothes as well! I just store the dirty diapers in a dry pail and wash in the morning.
Isn't Dydee Diapers the program that got caught for dumping mass amounts of cloth diapers into the Boston Harbor in the early 90's? It was cheaper to hand out new ones than it was to wash them. I'm not sure if it was them or not, just wondering if anyone knew.
Also, I read this article about cloth vs. disposable, and thought it was a great read: http://www.sustainer.org/dhm_archive/index.php?display_article=vn321diapersed
