Kerri, thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sorry you've had so many difficulties with your doctors; it has to be frustrating to waste appointment time on that topic over and over.
I just want to say to others reading that you won't necessarily face such criticism - I'm 9 months pregnant now and haven't had ANY problems with my doctors at all! I even moved to a different state mid-pregnancy, so I've had doctors in two different practices. In both states, my doctors asked me a few questions just to make sure I wasn't an idiot about nutrition, which is perfectly appropriate, in my opinion. There are a lot of people (omni and veg) who eat nutritionally deficient diets, and it's good to identify them and help them improve, especially when growing a baby. I know my stuff, so I was happy to share with them how I was meeting my protein and calcium needs. I actually filled out a log on babyfit.com of what I was eating for a week so I could tally my calories, protein, etc, but when I offered to show it to my first doctor, she waved it away and said she wished all her patients were as focused on eating healthfully. We spent less than 5 minutes discussing it. My bloodwork is always impressive, so that spoke for itself.
Anyway, educate yourself in case you do run into opposition from your doctors (and for the benefit of you and your baby to make sure you really DO know how to meet your changing nutritional needs), but don't assume you'll have a bad experience. My pregnancy has been easier than I ever imagined, and I can't wait to meet my baby!
