I just discovered this great book called Your Vegetarian Pregnancy. I’m sorry it's taken so long for me to respond to all of your pregnancy questions... But I promise, answers are coming!

In the meantime, I wanted to recommend this book. I’ve been doing some research since you all sent me your questions on vegan pregnancy and I found this book. It is so great!!!!

If you are thinking of having a baby, or you are already pregnant, read this book. It’s written by Dr. Holly Roberts, who is a board certified Obstetrition/Gynecologist. I think it will answer tons of your questions, and much more. It’s really a must read for anyone who wants to have a healthy pregnancy... Especially non-vegans!

If you read it, let me know what you think!

Your vegetarian pregnancy is great!  We are still in the "trying" process, so I am letting a friend borrow it in the meantime, and she LOVES it too!

Hazel- I recommend Your vegetarian Pregnancy over The Green Pregnancy Diet.  I have both.  The Green Pregnancy Diet has some wonderful points, but the book is very thin, and I seem to get more out of the other.  They are a both great though.

I would just suggest checking these books out from the library if you can, or reading various reviews on them, as they seem to be useful to varying degrees for different people, and there's no sense in buygin something you don't need. It seems like a lot of it depends on your experience, and I've certainly been burned after buying a book I thought looked great, only to find it was mostly full of stuff I already knew. Save a tree, make use of you library before you buy : ).

The Vegetarian Mother's Cookbook is also a really good resource. I used it during pregnancy as weel as post-partum. it has awesome freeze-ahead stuff so you can keep a veg. kitchen even when you can't get around those first days after giving birth. Is a written for pregnant and nursing moms and their families. It is worth a look if you ask me!!!

On our radio show earlier this year (www.animalvoices.org) we did a show focussing on vegan pregnancies and did a really good interview with nutritionist Jae Steele on this subject, in which I learned a lot. The podcast of this show isn't available on our website (yet), but it can be downloaded straight from this url: http://archive.animalvoices.org/AnimalVoices_2010-02-12.mp3  I highly recommend it.

wow.  tons of info!  we're also in the "working on it" phase.  my question (for any of you who know) is does anyone know about if any of these books are for vegans?  i was vegetarian for my last pregnancy and it's a whole 'nother ball game!  i'm really looking for some specific info on vegan pregnancy...i've heard so many things from so many people, but it's hard to filter the quality information.  i've been reading a book on macrobiotics and am really into it, but also, there are mixed perspectives on whether macro is safe for pregnancy...

help!

thanks!

I'm just waiting to hear about YOUR pregnancy!!!!! Isn't your mama just dying for a grandbaby???LOL! Hugs!

Eve: If you scroll up to my comment, I've linked to a couple of vegan books that have been really helpful to me.  :)  I find that a lot of vegetarian books are pretty good about addressing vegan issues, though, including Your Vegetarian Pregnancy.

Good luck to you and your partner!

Is there any breastfeeding info in it? I am both a breastfeeder and a breastfeeding counselor and would love bf info for myself and for my clients.
