This is the most amazing bean burger recipe I've ever tried to make myself. It was originally published from Alison Holst and the book is (I think) 'Meatless Meals'. NOTE: Alison Holst is the Julia Child of New Zealand.
I adore this recipe! I have relied on this when I am homesick for warmer weather since it reminds me of my semester aboard in Rockhampton, Queensland Australia.
NOTE: I have no desire to steal any information and apologize if I mistyped the source. I know the author is Alison Holst. http://www.holst.co.nz/Home
I am pretty sure this particular recipe is Vegan; but, if not then modify as necessary. I will type it as it is from the book to keep its authenticity.

-
1/2 cup(s) of chick peas
-
1/2 cup(s) of soy beans
-
1/2 cup(s) of peanuts (raw) or sunflower kernels
-
1/4 cup(s) of toasted sesame seeds
-
1/2 cup(s) of rolled oats
-
1/4 cup(s) of pea flour
-
1 tbsp. of parsley
-
1 tsp. of salt
-
1/4 cup(s) of wheat germ, optional
-
1 tbsp. of nutritional yeast, optional
- Measure the first four ingredients into a bowl and mix together. Using a blender or food processor (we found the coffee-grinder attachment of our food processor to be the most effective) grind half a cup of this mixture at a time until it is the consistency of dry breadcrumbs. This process makes a terrible noise, but the convenience of the completed product makes it all worthwhile!
- Combine the freshly ground bean mixture with the remaining ingredients. Store in a an air-tight jar until desired.
Making Burgers:
for two 10 cm burgers:
1 cup burger mix (from above)
1/2 cup water
2 tsp dark soya sauce
1-2 Tbsp oil to cook
Mix everything except the cooking oil together and allow to stand for at least 15 minutes. For extra flavour add a clove of chopped garlic, or a few garlic granules, if desired.
Cook over a moderate heat for at least 5 minutes on each side, covering the pan with a suitable lid to collect steam and speed up the cooking.
Notes:
Other bean varieties may ben used in the place of chick peas and soybeans, but kidney beans should be avoided.
